WOMEN To WATCH: KIMBERLY KOIDE IWAO

Director of Legal & Regulatory Affairs and Associate Corporate Counsel, ProService Hawaii

By Pacific Business News Staff, April 17, 2015, 6:00 a.m. EDT

Q&A

The woman who has helped my career the most: I would like to recognize my mom as the woman who has been my biggest supporter and cheerleader. Her unwavering confidence in my skills, abilities, and leadership attributes has positively impacted my career and made me who I am today.

The most important piece of business advice I’ve received: Don’t focus on the glass ceiling, but instead have the confidence, work ethic and ambition to achieve your career goals. Take on new challenges outside your comfort zone, and don’t be afraid to fail — it’s all a part of professional growth.

One thing that most people don’t know about me: I’m not the typical attorney. I owned several Internet businesses, selling wedding favors, homemade jewelry, and gift certificates. I also like bling and hip hop music.

"Since her move to ProService, I have observed her quick transition from being a partner at a large law firm into a well-respected business executive. As a prospective client, Ms. Iwao has become a valuable business partner and adviser to me in my role as CEO of this company. She is also important to our company because of the respect she has earned from the business community, our senior managers, and our board of directors." - Richard Philpott, CEO and General Counsel, Hawaii Residency Programs Inc.
